Ever since she was a young girl growing up in New York, Stephanie Lavender always seemed to have either a coloring book or a pencil and paper in her hands. Her Mom, Jean encouraged her to pursue the artistic talents she knew her daughter had since she was a toddler playing with puzzles and scribbling on her sister’s books! Stephanie always dreamed of palm trees swaying outside of her window, and after graduating from New York University in 1986, she moved to South Florida. Now she loves creating new designs, sitting under those palms in her tropical retreat that her and her husband created. She shares a quaint and “funky” house with Dennis and their 4 “kids”… 4 Chinese Shar Peis: Dim Sum, Qi Mei, Jasmine Jade, and Cha Siu Bau!   “I feel so lucky to have a job that I love to do, the freedom to create anytime I want, and in the beauty of my own little tropical paradise!”

When people ask Stephanie what she does for a living, she first answers that she’s an artist but also refers to herself as a “jill of All Trades.” Stephanie and her husband Dennis have enjoyed the challenges of renovating many old houses. Stephanie does the interior and landscape design, but enjoys getting her hands dirty too! “I truly enjoy and get deep satisfaction to say, I created that!” The same goes true for her artwork. Some artists love to paint, but Stephanie says the best part is coming up with new, interesting ideas. I try to look at ordinary things a little different. “I would say that my designs have Whimsy with an Edge! A little funny and unexpected!”

Stephanie’s goal has been to have her images on things that people can see and use in their every day lives. Lavender Blue Designs evolved from a hand-painted clothing line at arts and crafts fairs to a whimsical, colorful portfolio of designs reproduced on a variety of products such as garden flags and garden art to picture frames, apparel and more.
Look for Stephanie’s signature swirls….its on almost everything she creates and on almost everything around her house!
